Valley Forge Letter Assignment

For this essay assignment, picture you are a common soldier in George Washington's army in February of 1778. You are a man (sorry girls, there were very few women in camp ) and you are writing home to your Mother, Father, brother, sister, girlfriend/wife or child (you decide).

Before writing, take time to imagine:
  1. What is your name?
  2. Where are you from (what colony)?
  3. Why did you sign up a year ago to fight in the Continental Army?
  4. Who are you writing to?
Answering all of these questions before you write will help make the letter more real believable. In your letter you must address the following points:
  1. What is your life like at Valley Forge?
  2. Explain how you feel about being with Washington (Brooklyn Heights through Valley Forge).
  3. How do you feel about this revolution and will you re-enlist in the spring?
This is a three paragraph essay and should be posted on your blog. If there is time at the end of class, work to finish either your Book Portfolio or your Project.
