For this essay assignment, picture you are a common soldier in George Washington's army in February of 1778. You are a man (sorry girls, there were very few women in camp ) and you are writing home to your Mother, Father, brother, sister, girlfriend/wife or child (you decide).
Before writing, take time to imagine:
- What is your name?
- Where are you from (what colony)?
- Why did you sign up a year ago to fight in the Continental Army?
- Who are you writing to?
Answering all of these questions before you write will help make the letter more real believable. In your letter you must address the following points:
- What is your life like at Valley Forge?
- Explain how you feel about being with Washington (Brooklyn Heights through Valley Forge).
- How do you feel about this revolution and will you re-enlist in the spring?
This is a three paragraph essay and should be posted on your blog. If there is time at the end of class, work to finish either your Book Portfolio or your Project.
