Pontiac's Rebellion and the End of the War

1759 - General James Wolfe surrounds the French Fort at Quebec - During the night Wolfe lands British Troops beneath the fort and finds a path up the cliffs which are part of the fort's defense

In the morning French General Montcalm leads his troops from Fort Quebec to confront Wolfe's British forces on the Plains of Abraham - General Wolfe and General Montcalm die in the battle - British win overall and take Quebec

1760 - British General Jeffrey Amhearst finishes off all French Resistance in North America by conquering Montreal - This effectively ends the French Indian War

• After the French and English stop fighting in the French and Indian War, Native Americans remain angry with British role in the Ohio country
• British, under command of General Amhearst stop selling gunpowder and ammunition to local Indians - Indians believe it is an attempt to disarm them in order to conquer.
• Rebellion begins - led by Chief Pontiac of the Otawa / Ojibawa tribe
• Indian Coalition of tribes takes 9 out of 11 frontier forts - hundreds of British soldiers killed
• General Amhearst counters with a form of germ - warfare - infecting blankets with Smallpox and leaving them behind at abandoned forts - possibly thousands of Indians die to these tactics

1763 - Treaty of Paris ends the Seven Year War - Britain gains all French land in North America
