• Washington led a group of Colonial troops to confront the French at Fort Duquesne (Pittsburgh)

• Washington stumbles upon French diplomatic group – French officer killed

• Edward Braddock – Sent by British in 1775 to lead campaign against French

• Braddock uses European tactics (Linear Marching Formations and Firing Lines)

• French have victories at: Fort William Henry, Fort Duquesne and others

• Braddock’s Expedition

• 2,200 British Soldiers and Colonial Militia leave Maryland – May 1775 with cannons, equipment, provisions and bright red uniforms

• They cross the wilderness of Western Pennsylvania – 110 mile journey / Some days just 2 miles a day
